Shelia Dianna Broom passed away at the age 62 in Lake Wales Florida. She made her grand entrance to this world on November 8, 1958 in Clermont Florida. She was the eldest of 9 children from her mother Elouise Isom Penny and Father John Wesley Penny Sr. (Deceased).
She attended Lincoln Park, an all Black school until 1970 when full integration was completed and Lincoln Park became Clermont Middle School. In 1976 she graduated from Clermont High School. She then attended Lake Technical Center where she received her certification as a Physician Assistant. She worked for South Lake Hospital for 3years until she relocated to Virginia.
On October 05, 1984 she married her husband whom she had known since childhood, Frank Freddrick Broom Sr. (Deceased). With this union they produced 8 lovely children 5 girls and 3 boys. Jennifer Ileen, Shelia Marie, Frank Freddrick Jr., Elouise Marissa (Deceased), Quentin Lamar, Amandalynn Lois Patrice, and her twins Nicole Arlene and Nicholas Jermaine Broom.
Shelia started out as a volunteer at Clermont Head Start Program, where all of her children attended. She was Parent President of the parent committee, and also worked as a cook for a period of time. In 1995 her love for engaging with children and seeing their faces light up with joy with every accomplishment, made her transition into the role of a teacher's assistant. Shelia later became a Teacher and held this title until she retired.
Shelia was loving, selfless, gentle, kind and her presence alone would light up a room. She had a true passion for reading, she absolutely LOVED it. She also had a love for traveling, she always talked of moving to Texas one day. She sacrificed so much yet never complained. Shelia was a phenomenal woman and will truly be missed by us all!
Shelia is survived by 7 of her 8 children and their spouses; daughters Jennifer Shaw, Shelia & Brian Chambers, Amandalynn & Johny Desir, & Nicole & Franklin Allen; and sons Frank & Starr Broom, Quentin Broom, and Nicholas & Chelsea Broom; her mother Elouise Penny; brothers John Penny, Samuel Penny, David Penny, James Penny, Danny Penny, and Christopher & Lisa Penny; sisters Cheryl Alston & Kenneth Hope, Jacqueline & Kelvin Hunter ; 21 grandchildren; 4 Aunts; 4 Uncles; A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends!
